Visit of Hon'ble Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Shri Tariq Anwar Ji at Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Uttarakhand on 29 March 2013
Hon'ble Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Shri Tariq Anwar Ji has visited the DCFR, Bhimtal today. Director DCFR Dr. A. Barat has welcomed the hon'ble MOS and briefed the ongoing activities and research programme of the institute. The Hon'ble minister showed his keen interest in visiting different laboratories and infrastructure at the Directorate. He also expressed his happiness and satisfaction over the ongoing activities of the Directorate. During the visit he also distributed fish seeds to the progressive farmers from Uttarakhand. He was happy to know that farmers are getting benefits of research conducted and technology developed at the institute. He also addressed the gathering of scientists and farmers and emphasized that we need to increase our progress and should be ready to feed burgeoning population of the country. He appreciated the scientific progress made by the ICAR in the field of crops, vegetables, animal and fisheries. The role of scientific organizations working in these areas under the ICAR system have done commendable work in bringing India's food production at record high level. He also told that India is a unique country having rich biodiversity with a varying geography and there is a need to develop location specific technologies with an aim of community development. Role of agriculture in alleviating poverty and creating opportunity for employment were also emphasized by the Hon'ble Minister. He also emphasized that agriculture research and development will be having greater role in the county's food security.
During his speech he also emphasized the importance of farmers who must be given due consideration and ICAR is fully committed for them. During this occasion he also facilitated progressive farmers from Uttarakhand state and congratulated them for doing commendable work. He also released the ISO 9001:2008 certificate conferred to the DCFR and inaugurated the website of the institute. During this occasion Directors of various ICAR institutes particularly, Director PDFMD Mukteshwar, Dr. B. Pattanaik, Director VPKAS Almora, Dr. J.C. Bhatt, Incharge Regional Station, CITH, Mukteshwar, Dr. B.L. Attari and Incharge Regional Station, IVRI, Mukteshwar, Dr. A.B. Pandey was also present. The hon'ble Minster has profusely thanked the DCFR Director, Scientists and all the staff and extended his good wishes.
