|
As part of the ongoing activities under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav, a field day was organised on 27 August 2023 at the remote village Bhaker located approximately 11 km away from Bhimtal city. Considering abundant perennial water resources in the form of natural mini-streams and the need to increase income at the village level by tapping these resources, initiatives were made to combine carp species with colored goldfish in polytanks. Techniques of transport and conditioning of fish seed during the stoking and monitoring in the rainy season were demonstrated to a group of 12 fish farmers. During the interaction, farmers were encouraged to employ useful and tested culture methods such as stocking healthy carp fingerlings, maintaining 6–8 feet of water level and providing an outlet for excess rainwater drainage. Forty villagers including students and women of SHG participated in the meet. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Suresh Chandra and Mr. Sumanta Kumar Mallik.
